TAUMARUNUI.

The annual picnic of the undenominational Sunday School was held on Easter Monday. The weather was rather changeable, but a very good muster was made, both of children and adults. A very enjoyable time was spent, the children indulging in games and races, and excellent refreshments were provided. A good number of local residents went through to Auckland for the Easter holidays, as well as a fairly large contingent from Raurimu and Makatote. The land in this district is now beginning to be thrown open for selection, and settlement should have a beneficial effect on the town. On April 24th, four rural sections, with areas of from 133 acres to 203 acres in the Tapui block, will be opened on the optional system, as also will be a block of 200 acres at Manganui. In addition, three village homesteads of 10 to 12 acres, at Manganui, will be opened on the lease in perpetuity tenure.

It is gratifying" to record that in:titers in connection with the hospital site have moved a step forward. Information has been received that sections 2 to 9, block 11, containing about eight acres, have been reserved, together with the area already provided for the building, and arrangements for the erection of the hospital will be proceeded with immediately. A Church of England bazaar is to be held on the 20th.inst, and already a large amount of material (both useful and ornamental) is in readiness for the occasion.
