HANGATIKI.

Notice has now been served on the Natives who owned the Hangatiki School site, that it has been taken under the Public Works Act. These Natives have stoutly resisted the movements of the Education Department, and now that the question of a right of way to the school arises more trouble will likely be in the wind. However, on March I2th, a surveyor arrived and cut out a road, so that there is now every prospect of a building being erected immediately. Inspector Stewart, in his report, stated that a new building was urgently required, but surely it is not needful to quote an inspector's report —a school roll of thirty should speak for itself. Several trucks of sheep for Mr J. Dunning arrived on Tuesday last. These sheep, which are a splendid example of fine, healthy animals, have been brought from the south at considerable expense. I am pleased to report that Mr Bayley has quite recovered from his late serious illness. He and his family are now residing here, and his three chilkren make a valuable addition to the school roll. Several settlers in this district have been unable to obtain sheep trucks when required. This shortage of trucks seems to be unLverssl, and is a great drawback to farmers, some of whom have ordered trucks, and on bringing their sheep to the station have found that the means conveyance has not arrived. One is almost forced to put the question : " What is the use of railways if the department does not also supply rolling stock ? "
