In connection with the petition of the Aria settlers, for the erection of a bridge over the Mokau river, the following communication has been received from the Chief Engineer of the Roads Department Mr'A. 1. Thomas and othei's, re Mokau bridge at Wairere. — Sir, —I am directed by the Hon. Minister of Public Works to acknowledge the receipt of a petition signed by yourself and others, asking that a traffic bridge as above, be erected. In reply the Hon. Minister wishes me to inform you that he has given instructions that plans, etc., be completed, and the present available £3OO spent in the purchase of materials, and that further expenditure will be authorised from time to time as may be required. —Your obedient servant, C. W. Hursthouse, Chief Engineer.
