RAURIMU.
A sensational occurrence is reported on the Main Trunk line, which resulted in the disappearance of Oio, for some time past the centre and depot for supplies at the northern extension of the line. However, the happening was only sensational from the fact that some very smart work was done in the removal of the goods and supply sheds to Raurimu, to which place the railway is now laid. The time occupied in the removal and reerection of the buildings was three days. In that period the whole of the buildings, which contained the supplies forover 1000 men and 400 horses at work on the line, were shifted on, and Oio was shorn of its glory. The work was carried out under the supervision of Mr Hickey and Mr S. Vaile, to whom credit is due for a smart performance.
The ballasting of the line to Raurimu is now being pushed ahead, and : during the past three weeks the first lift has been completed.
Preparations are now being made for ceasing work for the holidays, and a large number of men will be leaving for Auckland at the end of the week.
