HANGATIKI.
Potatoes in this district are doing splendidly, and I am pleased to report that the blight has not yet attacked them. Many of the local Maoris de- - pend upon potatoes for winter food, so that it is to be hoped they will have successful cropf. Mr A. Wilson is now harvesting a very fine crop of oats. As it is about twelve acres in extent it is the largest grown here, and may be taken as an example of the fertility of the King Country soil. A small section of land in this district has been advertised for ballot, which was to take place on the 19th. As a result of this several people have been to inspect it. One land-seeker, just from America, was well im- - pressed with it, as well as with the surrounding country, which he states is as good as is to be had in America.
