OHURA VALLEY.

The annual public meeting of settlers interested in the Children's Picnic was held at Williams and Bruce's store, Mangaroa, on Saturday Dec. gth, when the following committee was appointed: Messrs J. Clenaghan, F. Stanley, C. Edgecombe, W. Woof, M. Clark, G. Loveday, R. Carrie, C. Manning, D. Sullivan, F. Julian, G. Beresford, C. H. Hope, and G. Denison, with Mr W. K. Williams as Chairman and Secretary. The newly appointed committee then got to work, and in a short time had drawn up an attractive programme, consisting of games and races for the little guests, not forgetting their fathers and mothers, who will also have an opportunity of showing their agility. Their several duties were apportioned out to willing volunteers, who will no doubt do their best to make the picnic the enjoyable days outing, both for young and old, that it has always been. The picnic will be held in the Toi Toi sports ground en New Year's Day, and all are invited to attend. Messrs Williams and T. Hunt are putting on teams to cart gravel on 'the road at Mangaroa. A contract is also to be let for carting pumice on to the road at Matiere, and in consequence, the coming winter should see a decided improvement in the main road of the district.
