TE KUITI.

The Te Kuiti Debating Society held its usual weekly meeting on Friday last, when there was a good attendance of members. After the ordinary business had been disposed of it was decided to adopt the Sports Committee's recommendation of Janaury 29th for the date of the carnival. The subject for debate: " Is prohibition beneficial to Te Kuiti," was well contested, Mr Hardy supporting the affirmative and Mr J Ormsby the negative. After an interesting discussion the question was put to the vote when the negative view was carried by a majority of one. The subject for debate next meeting is: ""Should every man have a vote," when Mr Power will take the affirmative and Mr Hardy the negative, A meeting of the Church Committee was held after service en Sunday night last, when the folk wing were appointed members of the vestry:— Messrs Melling, Tammadge, Kirkby, Franklin, J. Ormsby J. Hetct, Morgan, C. Ormsby, Hardy, Jordan, and Cook. Mr Hine was appointed secretary and Miss Melling treasurer. A number of ladies were elected as a committee to organize a sale of work in aid of the Church building fund.
