Australians, in tbeir first innings, made 586; Gregory 201, Giffen 161, 1 redale 81. Blackbam 74, Reedman 17. McLeod 15, Jones (who played instead of Graham) 11. Gregory and Giffen scored at a great rate. Gregory played with marked brilliancy. He was let off when be had scored 50. Englishmen missed the bowling assistance of Lockwood, who had to retire through indisposition. Bowling : Peel 2 wickets for 140, Briggs 0 for 96, Lock wood 0 for 1, Broekwell 1 for 78, Stoddart 1 for 31, Richardson 5 for 181, Ford 1 for 47.
Gregpry was presented with a purse of £lO3. The subs, were collected on the ground. Stoddart’s team, first innings, 325; Ward 75, Briggs 57, Broekwell 49, Brown 22, Stoddart 12, McLaren 4. (Some of the scores omitted ) The Englishmen are 261 behind, au d follow on.
