WOOL SALES.
The second of the series of wool sales of the present season was held in Christchurch last week, a catalogue of 15,000 bales being offered. There was a good attendance of Home and local buyers and of those interested in the sale. Results were very unsatisfactory. Home buyers showed 'no desire to operate, and fleece wool was therefore practically unsaleable, the bulk of the wool disposed ot being fellmongera’ lots. There was an appreciable decline iu values all round of from J;d to per lb as compared with the last sale. Of the first catalogue of 343 lots offered only some 120 were sold, the remainder being either passed or withdrawn. The sale was continued and concluded on much the same basis. Things appeared rather brighter, but prices did not improve. SYDNEY, Dec 15 Last year wool sold locally averaged £lO 5s per bale, but this year the average is £8 12s. LONDON, Dec 15 Bradford merchants have addressed circular to Melbourne exporters complaining that sheep shearing machines in use in the colony show uneven cutting, which causes wool to coil during combing process. It is pointed out that this results iu serious loss to the manufacturer.
