(Before W. Smith, Esq., and Capt. Davidson, Justices ) Chas. H. Morris was brought up, on remand, charged with stealing an oxodised silver bracelet-watch, of the value of 635, the property of Frank Hodson, commercial traveller.
Evidence was given by F. Hodson, showing how the article had been lost here, but not missed until he had reopened his samples at Masterton ; that he had communicated with Mr Kenny and the police. He recognised the article produced as his, and produced a similar one. Miss Kenny gave evidence as to her father receiving a letter from Mr Hodson about the matter ; that her father enquired of accused whether he had seen it, which he denied, and that seal ch for it had been fruitless.
Const. Smhrt gave evidence as to finding the article in accused’s coat pocket. Accused stated that he found the article under the gratiilg at the Assembly Hall door.
The Bench held the charge sustained, and sentenced accused to two months’ imprisonment in Lyttelt >n Gaol, the sentence to tun concurrent with that imposed on the 28th ulto. for stealing a watch from P. Kennedy. A- further charge of stealing a pair of leggings was withdrawn.
