A POISONING CASE.

WELLINGTON, Thursday

Mysterious case of poisoning reported from Pahiatua. Party of wedding guests, numbering 30, on Saturday last partook of refreshment at residence of bride’s father. On Sunday morning ail were seized with abdomroal pains and intense vomiting. Since then Peter Dickson, draper, of Masterton, and Joseph Moore have died. Others are still in critical state. Symptoms point to arsenical poisoning. Arsenic is supposed by some means to have got into food. Another theory is that oxalic acid was put in in mistake for Epsom salts for ajoke. Masterton, Saturday : No further deaths occurred. Funeral of Dickson largest ever seen in district, upwards of 1000 people attended. Several victims of the Pahiatua poisoning case still in a precarious state. Inquest on Dickson commenced on Thursday. Doctor's evidence showed ithtf- msfeifNr jvuisp ,qf d/yuji.

Inquest adjourned to Bth January. Later : Intense alarm still prevails at Pahiatua, the whole of the victims fearing the worst. Another death occurred this afternoon, Samuel Naylors child. Clue to mystery will probably not be obtained until after inquest. Dr Hoskins ridicules idea that oxalic acid was put into confectionery in mistake for Epsom salts. 3rd : Funeral of late Peter Dickson took place yesterday. 1000 persons, including 50 Masons, formed procession.
