The Australian handicappers are taking such good care of Drake’s horses Spade Guinea and Pasha having lumps of weight put on them and kept at the top of the list—that it is reported he is returning to New Zealand, having had a bad time of it.
Caulfield Races, second day : Mitchelson's Trantereasily won the Maiden, and is now almost first favorite for the V.R.C. Derby ; Spade Guinea and Pasha were never dangerous in the Cup; Escutcheon was interfered with at a .critical point. The Ballarat division lifev#Wlfd‘ed what is called a ShSlet Anchor coup and the Loughlins win £1 3,000 over the race. Silver Prince is still doing well.
The Blenheim mare Regina is much fancied for the N. Z. Cup and 12 to 1 is all that can be got about her. She is undergoing a strong preparation and Marlborough sports are very sweet on her, some of them stating that they have another Black Rose in pickle.
