HAMILTON HAPPENINGS.
(Special to the “ 1.U.”)
Last night, with the aid of a rebel, we attempted to put our side of the case to the workers of Hamilton.
Mentally chloriformed workers, backed by farmer specials (held in readiness to proceed to Auckland), were among the audience. We challenged farmer specials or so-called free labourers io debate the question, “ Why These Strikes ?”
Before we went far we had to deal with some ugly rushes, which swept the speaker off the box. Finally Police-Inspector Wright asked us to desist.
But what of the other John Hops? Did they make any attempt to preserve order? No! A big sixteen stone bludger here, s\ho is in the habit of lethering drunken men, was allowed a free hand.
We find in last night’s local rag that Hamilton is to the fore in the scab union. Richards, a land shark who can’t do a day’s work, is installed as secretary. Evans, of Cambridge, is another. Clarkin, of the firm trading as Clarkin and Sims, had the honour of driving the first load.
FV e assure fellow workers in Auckland that many here recognise that their first is our fight. \ ours for revolt, A. Plugge.
