GOOD MAORI EFFORT
PATRIOTIC STREET STALL £5B/8/6 RAISED ON FRIDAY A very successful street stall was organised by the Ngati Tamatera Tribal Committee in Paeroa on Friday in aid of the 1944 All Purposes Patriotic Appeal, the excellent sum of £5B 8s 6d being raised. The stall was, throughout the day, laden with produce of all kinds and there was a strong demand from the general public to purchase. Energetic work by the members of the ladies’ committee was largely responsible for the success of the effort. In the evening a dance was held in the meeting house on Te Aroha road and this was particularly well attended.
His Worship the Mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, at the function, expressed his appreciation of the work done by the Maori people to assist in the raising of patriotic funds and also those who had so generously donated to the stall. Messrs S. Tukukino and P. Koroneho in reply expressed their pleasure at being able to assist such a worthy cause and thanked all who had co-operated with them by gifts of produce and by buying from the stall to make the day a success.
