ENJOYABLE EVENING

MANGATAR ATA ANGLICANS HARVEST FESTIVAL AUCTION A social evening was held in the school at Mangatarata on Tuesday last, which followed the harvest festival held on the Sunday previously. An auction of the produce was the highlight of the evening, and the bidding was most spirited. A total of over £lO was reached, which says much for the powers of Mr Grey as auctioneer. He persuaded some of the guests to bid as high as 6s 6d for a sponge cake. A dance proceeded the auction when Mr J. Vine acted as M.C., with Miss Marshall supplying the music and Mrs L. Main the extras. Mrs Leonard and Mr E. Pell won the Monte Carlo, whilst in the junior egg and spoon race Master Frank Archer and Colleen Jellie were the winners. Novelty dances were a feature of the evening. Amonst those present were Mesdames Hedges, Death, Grey, Leonard, Jellie, Buchanan, Hall, L. Main, B. Main, Cropp Snr., Cropp Jnr., Taylor, Hegh and Archer; Misses Marshall, B. Grey, A. Buchanan, I. and N. McLennan, B. Rountree, N. and C. Hall, B. Kendrick (Women’s Land Army), B. Crozier (Women’s Land Army).
