COROMANDEL NEWS

OPENING UP LAND REHABILITATION AFFAIRS COROMANDEL COMMITTEE The monthly meeting of the Coromandel Rehabilitation Committee was held in the Council Chambers on Wednesday, March 8. The chairman introduced Mr P. J. Lillis who has been appointed by the Rehabilitation Board as a new member representing the business interests of the Peninsula. During the last month one application for a loan was granted by the board to a local serviceman and it is hoped to finalise others now under consideration in the forthcoming month. Members from the Mercury 'Bay districts stated that’ several areas of Crown lands situated in that locality should be made available, in suitable blocks, for returned men and it was decided to approach the Land and Survey Department with the view of having these lands developed for this purpose. The next meeting of the committee will be held on April 12, 1944.
