NOT TO BE GRAZED
LAND ON HAURAKI PLAINS STRIP NEAR NEW STOPBANK That the 40ft. strip of land on the west foreshore of the Hauraki Plains between the 'borrow pit and the, newly constructed stopbank will not be available for the grazing* of cattle was advised to Thursday’s meeting of the Hauraki West Drainage Board. The chief drainage engineer of the Land and Survey Department, Auckland wrote to the board as under:— “A settler has asked permission to graze with cattle the land between the borrow pit and the newly raised foreshore stopbank. This permission has not been granted on the ground that the risk of damage to the stopbank is too great. The cost of fencing appears to be far more than the grazing of the’4oft. strip of land is worth. It is anticipated your board will agree that the decision made is correct.” The chairman, Mr C. W. Parfitt, said the board would entirely agree with the decision. “We don’t want any cattle there yet,” he commented.
