The hens will be liberated immediately throughout the district and the cock birds will be held until early spring, Mr J. Cheale and Mr L. Niven offering to look after the -birds until then. The annual report read as under: — “ Shooting in our district last year was very good, duck especially being very plentiful. Limit bags were taken by most guns. The previous 'season being closed no doubt was a big factor in the increased* number of birds. “Although pheasant were fairly plentiful the increase was by no means as marked as the duck. This would be the result of the increase of vermin due to the absence of vermin control by' the shooters during an •open season. Fishing Has Deteriorated “Fishing in our streams has definitely deteriorated, and it is our considered opinion that liberations of trout will be necessary to improve the fishing. “The re-fornfed Ngatea branch has a membership of 18 and is taking a really live interest in the sport and their activities will, no doubt improve the shooting in their district. “The Kerepeehi branch members are also keeping their end up. Their initiative in breeding and liberating pheasants in their area will be reflected in their bags this season. “The club’s membership stands at 79 -which is an all-time record.”
