LESS FOR POWER

DECISION OF THE BOARD ECONOMIES EFFECTED METERING OF WATERHEATERS As the result of economies ’effected through* the metering of waterheaters the Thames Valley Electric Power Board at its meeting on Tuesday decided to reduce the tariff on the domestic supply by Id per unit. The manager, Mr R. Sprague, reported to the board on this matter as under: — “It has been found since the metering of waterheaters that the power purchases paid to the Public Works Department have shown a marked decrease. The estimated saving un der this heading for the year commencing April 1, 1944, should amount to between £2OOO and £3OOO, together with accumulations for the current year, and also the saving effected in maintenance and replacements, for which provision in reserves is now being made, so that no delay or financial restrictions will be met with when post-war maintenance and replacements are undertaken. Reduction From May 1 “Apart from the monetary saving, our diversity will also show a decided improvement and with these facts now available, I recommend a reduction to consumers of id per unit on the domestic tariff, which would then make it: First 30' units at 2Sd nett now reducible to 2Jd nett. This reduction should absorb annually the sum of £4500. “ I recommend that this reduction apply as from May 1, 1944. “ There is no question as to the results of the economies effected by the application of the metering of waterheaters, and the recommended reduction is in my opinion only one instance of the ultimate benefits the consumer should receive and that whenever credits are established by the board in its undertakings, within limits these should be handed back to the consumers wherever possible.”
