COMPULSORY UNIONISM FARMERS’ UNION SCHEME CONFERENCE ENDORSES REMIT “That we ask the Auckland conference to instruct branches to call special meetings of farmers, telling them that we are going to ask the Government to impose compulsory unionism on farmers. Farmers who object must attend to make their objection or their consent to this course is taken for granted,” was a Waihi remit discussed at Tuesday’s meeting of the Northern Thames Sub-provm-cial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. Mrs A. H. Blackmore (Waihi) said that every possible step had been taken to make unionism, compulsory without success. She urged the need for unity to get justice for the industry. She appealed for support to the remit. Mr E. Jamieson (Matatoki), supported the remit, stating it was a right step in the right direction. The chairman, Mr S. E. Hall, also spoke in favour of the remit which was carried unanimously.
