WIN FOR FOWLER

HARRIER CHALLENGE RACE PAEROA BEAT HAMILTON INTER-CLUB TEAMS MEET On Saturday last the Paeroa Harriei* Club sent a team of harriers to compete in an inter-club teams race with Hamilton. The race was the result of a challenge issued by the 'Paeroa Club to the Hamilton Club. The challengers were successful by the very smallest margin. The secretary of the Waikato SubCentre, Mr C. J. Thompson, detailed the course to the contestants and then started them on their way. From the word go the runner-up in the Waikato Cross-country Championship, J. Fowler (Paeroa), went to the front and was never afterwards in danger of defeat.

R. Hughes (Hamilton) ran into second place at the start, followed by D. Thompson (Hamilton) and M. Wallan (Paeroa). With half the distance covered Fowler was still bowling along in front, followed by R. Hughes, D. Thompson and J. Sutherland. Next came M. Wallan and T. Sweeney (Paeroa), R. Scorrar (Hamilton) with A. Currie and R. Millar (Paeroa) and B. Cranston and S. Baird (Hamilton) running in a bunch. There was very little change in the run to the judge, Fowler going on to win as he liked with R. Hughes next, followed by D. Thompson, M. Wallan and T. Sweeney. After the run the members were entertained to afternoon tea at which Mr Thompson welcomed the Paeroa Harriers and congratulated them on their win. He also expressed the wish that this inter-club would be the forerunner of many such contests between the two clubs.

Mr F. D. Sharp, replying on behalf of the visitors thanked the Hamilton Club for the' hospitality extended to the Paeroa boys and expressed the hope that next year Hamilton would visit Paeroa for another such contest.

Results:— Paeroa Club, 28 points, 1; Hamilton, 28 points, 2. Individual, placings.—J. Fowler (Paeroa), 37.40, 1; R. Hughes (Hamilton), 37.49, 2; D. Thompson (Hamilton), 38.20, 3; M. Wallan (Paeroa), 40.23, 4'.
