TRIBUTE TO PIONEER
PASSING OF MR PIERCE GRACE FORMER COUNTY CHAIRMAN The passing of Mr Pierce Grace, a pioneer of the district, was the subject of sympathetic reference at Wednesday’s meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council. Mi’ T. A. Barrett (acting-chairman), who presided, said that Mr Grace had been a member of the council for 15 years, and chairman for seven years. As representative of the Waitekauri riding, a one-time mining constituency which had ’ brought a tremendous amount of revenue to the county, Mr Grace’s labours as a councillor, evidencing his great wisdom and foresight, were worthy of admiration. That could be said without in any way disparaging the contribution of other members and places to the present position of the county. It was only right, he thought, that they should acknowledge their debt to the pioneers of. whom Mr Grace was a worthy representative. -
, On the motion of Councillor Barrett, a resolution of appreciation of the late Mr Grace and of sympathy with his relatives, was adopted, by a standing vote of the councillors.
