VERY BAD STATE

TURUA-ORONGO HIGHWAY < COUNTY MEETING DISCUSSION At the August meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council Cr. A. H. Sutton asked that something be done to the main Turua-Orongo highway, as it was getting in a very bad state. The chairman, Mr C. W. Parfitt, replied that only repairs could be carried out. No major undertaking could be entertained. Cr. D. G. McMillan said there were a number of other roads in the county that required rebuilding and repairing. Cr. Sutton said he saw where the Tauranga County was* laying down miles of bitumen road. Cr. C. W. Schultz asked if the council had the material and the labour could it be done? The chairman: No, provision was made in this year’s estimate® for only patching and repairs. At any rate, this was the wrong time of the year to do any work of a permanent nature.
