STRAYING STOCK
TOO MANY ON THE PLAINS COUNCIL DECIDE TO PROSECUTE Wandering stock on various parts of the Hauraki Plains were commented on by councillors at Wednesday’s meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council when the opinion was expressed that straying cattle were more numerous than before.
Mr F. Pinchess said that there were many complaints in the Waitakaruru area and recently stock had been on his lawn.
Mr W. H. Cheale reported that recently while he was on his way to Thames he had passed unattended stock at Netherton and Turua and then when he came back in the evening the stock were still there .unattended.
The opinion was expressed that an example should be made of the worst offenders. If a few were prosecuted the trouble would soon be cleaned up.
The ranger, Mr W. W. Williams, said the trouble was that many of the farm roadside fences were in a bad state of repair and the stock just wandered in and out of the paddocks on to the roads as they liked.
