SUCCESSFUL YEAR
FAREWELL COMMITTEE WORK DONE AT NGATEA OFFICERS FOR ENSUING YEAR A meeting of the Ngatea Soldiers’ Farewell Committee was held recently in the Ngatea Hall, the chairman, Mr J. W. Neate, presiding over the ;< following members, Mesdames Flint, V. Phillips, R. B. Hodgson, T. A. McClean, T. Sydenham, A. Douglas, Mr A. Constntine, and the sec-retary-treasurer, Mrs A. Cleave. The annual report disclosed that ten functions had been held during the year, the door takings amounting to £lO4. Sixteen presentations had been made, expending £64. Donations from the Ngatea Women’s Institute and the Ngatea Old Pupils’ Association of £2O and £5 respectively, together with profits from
the dances, brought the bank balance to a credit of £56.
Mr Constantine congratulated the secretary on the able way in which she had kept the books of the committee, and also on her efficiency in assisting to prepare for, each of the functions.
Mr J. W. Neate said that on almost every occasion, Mrs 'Cleave had not only cleaned the hall before the dance, but had also come down again next day to attend to the tidying-up. It was such willing workers that assured the success of any committee. It was decided that whatever funds there may be at the end of the war, would be divided among the men of the fighting services of the Ngatea district.
The committee was re-elected with Mr Neate again as chairman and Miss Paul, Miss Nelson and Mrs L. E. Jackson as additional members. Mr E. A. Mahoney was appointed hon. auditor.
