OBITUARY

SGT.-MAJOR W. H. JUDGE FORMER PAEROA RESIDENT The death has occurred of SergeantMajor William Henry Judge, a member of the New Zealand Temporary Staff who was formerly stationed in Paeroa. Born in Arundel, Northamptonshire, he enlisted at at early age in the 16th. (Queen’s) Lancers and saw service in various parts of the Empire, including a term with the Rhodesian Frontier Horse Regiment. He fought in Matabeleland and took part in the Jameson Raid.

Later, coming to New Zealand, he enlisted .on the outbreak of the, last war and served overseas with the Wellington Mounted Rifles. During the present war he had been on duty at several North Island military camps.

He was a member of the Waihi branch of the R.S.A. and belonged to the Masonic order.
