COST OF POWER
CONCERN OF FARMERS WATER HEATERS ON METER DISCUSSION AT MEETING “That the position- regarding power water heaters in dairy sheds be discussed,” was a remit from Waihi discussed at Tuesday’s meeting -of the Northern Thames Sub-Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union held in Paeroa.
Mr A. H. Blackmore said that the matter had -been discussed in Waihi. The power board had considered that the metering would cost very little more if any than at the old flat rate. He had, added Mr Blackmore, worked out the cost on a farm using a IS h.p. electric motor and water heater. The old cost for 10' months was £2l 4s Od while on the new rate the cost would be £32 o's lOd for the same period, an increase of £lO 16s lOd.
Mr A. J. Campbell (Waihi), said the large consumers on the farm, especially with children, were going to be penalised in their household accounts. He explained that on a farm where children went to school meals had to be given to them earlier than the rest of the family were ready.
After considerable discussion Mr Blackmore moved “That this sub-pro-vincial executive prepare data concerning the rate of power for milking sheds and submit it to the Thames Valley Electric Power’ Board and the Price Tribunal.
A committee comprising Messrs W. Hayes, A. F. Thorp, H. H. Hicks, E. Jamieson and A. H. Blackmore, were appointed to investigate the position.
