RISE IN PRICE
COST OF METAL DUST FARMERS CONCERNED QUESTION OF STABILISATION Stabilisation came under criticism at Tuesday’s meeting of the Northern Thames Sub-Privincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union when a member reported that the price of metal dust from a local quarry had risen since August 1 from 8s per yard to 14s per yard. Mr W. Hayes (Netherton), drew the attention of the meeting to the recent big rise in the cost of metal. He asked how this could happen when Up to last month the price had been Up to last monththe price had been only 8s per yard but to-day metal dust was 14s per yard. He asked whether this was in order and how it could happen with stabilisation ruling. Mr W; H. Cheale (Netherton), said he could not see how the rise in price could! be made if the stabilisation policy of the Government was working correctly. Such a rise affected the farmer most unfairly. It was agreed to ask the Auckland office to investigate the position.
