KNOWING HEN
PERFECT “V” ON AN EGG LAID ON THE WAIHI PLAINS Foreknowledge of Monday’s news of Mussolini’s “abdication” as presaging the ultimate victory of the Allies over the Axis Powers appears to have been possessed by a Black Orpington-White Leghorn cross hen belonging to Mr J. McCgll, of Waihi Plains, which recently laid an egg with an alipost perfect“V” studiously embossed upon it. Possibly the hen had had some news from Fifth Columnists in Leghorn, Italy, to which it owed part of its origin.
