YOUNG COWS SELL AT £lO
The Famers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., report that, at their monthly stock sale held at Whitiranga, Mercury Bay, there was a full varding, mostly of cattle. Competition for good conditioned cows and well-grown heifers close to profit, was keen. Prices realised were fully on a par with those shown at outside centres.
One line of choice young cows sold readily at £lO a piece. As at recent sales, small and backward heifers were
not in keen demand. A small entry of fat cattle were elicited, keen bidding and recent high quotations were fully maintained. ' Quotations: — Light fat Jersey cows and heifers, £5 to £6; choice young cows, to £10; medium, £7 10s to £8 10s; later, £6 to £7; medium heifers, £8 to £8 10s; later, £6 to £7; medium heifers, £8 to £8 10s; later, £6 10s to £7 10s; small and backward, £5 to £6. Store and mixed sex hoggets, £l. Yearling Jersey heifers, £3 to £3 6s; small yearling Jersey heifers, £2 10s to £2 15s. The auctioneer was Mr Clothier, of Hamilton.
