FORTY YEARS AGO
PAEROA FIRE BRIGADE PRESENTATION MADE RAILWAY ACCOMMODATION (Front the Ohinemuri Gazette of July 28, 1903.) At a meeting of the members of the Paeroa Fire (Brigade a presentation was made to Mr J. Hunt who has severed his connection with the brigade after having been connected with it for some years, being for some considerable time captain. The presentation which took the form of a handsome case of pipes, was . made by Captain Moore, who, in handing the gift to Mr Hunt referred to the good work Mr Hunt had done while captain of the brigade, and the regret felt by the members at his severance from that body. Mr Hunt’s health was drunk with honours after which a suitable response was made, by Mr Hunt. Medals won in competitions by members of the brigade were (presented as follows: —Ex-captain Hunt, gold medal; Fireman Bromwich, silver medal; Fireman Buckeridge, gold medal and silver medal. Mr C. Brunskill has received the following letter from Mr T. Ronayne, General Manager of Railways: “With reference to the deputation upon the Right Honourable the Premier recently, in regard, to. the accommodation at the Paeroa Railway (Station, I have the honour by direction of
the Minister of Railways, to inform you that it has now been decided. to lengthen the goods siding on the south end and form and metal a cart approach thereto; also to have the necessary improvements made in the office accommodation; and instructions have been given for the work to be put in hand as soon as possible.
