BAND HONOURED

APPRECIATION OF SERVICES DANCE HELD IN COROMANDEL A very large crowd attended a social and dance held in St. George’s Hall, Coromandel, on Friday, July 16, when the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union honoured the Coromandel Silver Band, by holding a dance in recognition of the band’s services to the public. The band rendered two marches, and also played an extra waltz. These items were very much appreciated by those present. . The members of the Women’s Division supplied a splendid supper which gained many favourable comments and was very much enjoyed by all. The music for the evening was supplied by Mrs E. M. Lucas and Lee Perfect. Extras were played by Miss Lillis and were much appreciated. Mrs Anderson, president of the division acted as M.C. During the evening she welcomed the members of the band and said that the function had been sponsored by the division as a public recognition of the services of the ■■ band on all occasions when required. She concluded by expressing the hope that they would- all spend a happy evening. She handed Mr McNeil (bandmaster) the sum of £6 10s, being the nett proceeds of the evening for use as the band thought fit. Mr C. iC. Rae, the public representative of the band replied on their behalf. He expressed the bandsmen’s pleasure at the very fine gesture of the Women’s Division and said it was an incentive to continue with the work they were doing. He mentioned that the band was very much appreciated by the public and when the members who were away on active service returned they would come back and find the band ready to welcome them and eager to have them in their ranks again.

During the evening Miss Jean McLellan delighted the audience with some of her songs. A spot waltz was won by Miss June Deeble and 'Pte. R. McKeddie. A novelty Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs O. Dobbs and Driver Roy McNeil, while the ordinary Monte Carlo waltz was won by. Miss M. Anderson and partner. Dancing continued till 1 a.m., when the National Anthem brought the function to a close.
