A PROUD TROOP
TWENTIETH BLACKPOOL SCOUTMASTER’S BRAVERY The proudest troop of Boy Scouts in Britain to-day is the 20th Blackpool (Holy Trinity) Troop, and they have every reason for their pride, because their scoutmaster has helped to write a page in Britain’s history. He is Alex Pilling, the naval man in charge of the gunners of the tanker Ohio, the outstanding bravery of the crew of which has thrilled the whole free world. Before joining up, Pilling, of the Blackpool Gazette and Herald, was scoutmaster of the 20th Blackpool Scout troop as well as being district scoutmaster of the Blackpool (South) area. The assistant scoutmaster of the 20th Blackpool Troop, also a newspaperman, has been in hospital for 12 months following a dose of ammonia by which he was overcome when his ship was hit last year.
