FARMERS’ INJUSTICES
POST-WAR SUGGESTION DISCUSSION BY UNION Farmers’ grievances were ventilated on a remit from Waikato discussed at the annual Auckland conference of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union recentlv. The remit, moved by Mr Roberts, read: “That this conference feels the time has arrived when the injustices under which the farming industry is labouring should be eliminated, and that steps be taken whereby the determination of the industry
can be shown even though we call upon all dairy companies and other branches of farm businesses to close down, and that if necessary this attitude be adopted after an armistice is signed.”
The mover said there was no suggestion that any action ishould be
taken before the signing of an armistice. It was proposed only to provide a policy to be adopted after the Avar. Some speakers considered it unnecessary to pass the motion at the present juncture, but supporters of the remit said that as the Avar might end sooner than generally expected it should be prepared. The remit was carried on a slioav of hands.
