TO STAND AGAIN
STATEMENT BY MR THORN, M.P. CONTRADICTION TO RUMOUR “ There is a rumour widely current in the Thames electorate that I will contest a Wellington seat at the next elections and will not be the Labour Party candidate for Thames. I wish to state that this rumour is utterly baseless, and has not a vestige of truth in it whatever,” writes Mr J. Thorn, M.P. for Thames in a letter to the Hauraki Plains Gazette. The letter adds:—
“ Only recently I learnt that it was alleged in an Auckland weekly paper, that I was to stand for the seat now represented by Mrs C. Stewart, M.P., in Wellington and the rumour in my electorate, to which I am referring, probably had its origin in this untruthful statement.
“ I have said before and you will let me repeat, that Thames has done me a signal honour in electing me to Parliament; I am grateful for this and while I continue in public life I will have no other desire than to continue to represent Thames and to push on with the work I have for the past eight years been doing for my constituents.”
