COMMENDED TO ALL

3RD. LIBERTY LOAN APPEAL BY THE MAYOR BOROUGH TO INVEST £250 “ I commend the loan to all the people of the borough of Paeroa,” said the Mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, at Thursday night’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council when referring to the 3rd. Liberty Loan of £35,000,000 which is at present being raised by the Government.

Continuing, the Mayor said most people had anticipated an increase in taxation with the last budget and had been very relieved when the Minister of Finance had announced that it-was not proposed to increase taxation this year.

A large loan, however, would have to be raised to prosecute New Zealand’s war effort and the 3rd Liberty Loan which was now open was the

biggest loan ever raised in the Dominion. Up To AH To Help “It is up to every person to do ail possible in the country’s war effort,” urged the Mayor, pointing out that already many young men had paid the supreme sacrifice in service to their country. It is the duty of ail left behind to subscribe to the utmost to the loan. To those on wages the Mayor suggested they take as much as possible either by bond or in National Savings while to the business people he appealed to them to invest as much as they could afford in the loan.

The Finance Committee was recommended to invest £250 in the 3rd. Liberty Loan.
