MAORI WAR EFFORT
£72 RAISED IN PAEROA KAPPA MAORI POPULAR The Ngati Tamatera Tribal Committee of Paeroa, held a street stall combined with a Kappa Maori in Paeroa last Friday as part of the organised Maori war effort when the excellent sum of £72 was raised. The public generously supported the stall both by donations of goods, produce, etc., and by purchasing of the very good things which were offered for sale. The Kappa Maori also proved very popular and the small flax baskets containing deliciously cooked pork, kumera, potatoes and pumpkin were in keen demand.
Throughout the day the Maoris of Paeroa and the surrounding district worked with a will and it was due to their enthusiasm and untiring effort that such a large amount was collected.
In the evening a dance was held in the Civic Ballroom and this also proved popular, the hall being crowded with dance patrons.
