MR AND MRS G. MURDOCK
FAREWELL AND PRESENTATION
There was a large gathering of local residents at the home of Mr and Mrs Cedric Murdock, Ferry road, Hikutaia, one evening last week when a public farewell was tendered to Mr and Mrs G., Murdock, who are leaving Hikutaia and will in the future reside in Wharepoa. Mr and Mrs Murdock who have farmed in Hikutaia for the past 20 years were well known and respected in the district. A very jolly time was spent by all present, cards,, novel competitions and games keeping all interested throughout the evening. After a delicious supper had been served Mr Geo. Avery called upon Miss A. Wagner to present Mrs G. Murdock with a beautiful shoulder spray of cornflowers, mina lobata and maidenhair fern. The spray was the work of Mrs G. Henwood.*
Mr Avery then’asked the guests of honour, Mr and Mrs Murdock, to accept from the people of Hikutaia a handsome silver tea service as a mark of the esteem in which they were held.
It was hard, said Mr Avery, to have once again to say goodbye to old residents of Hikutaia, but like many others, Mr and Mrs Murdock had worked hard in bygone days when conditions were not as convenient as they ar e to-day and now that they were retiring he hoped they would enjoy their well-earned holiday and he wished them the best of everything in their new home.
Mr Murdock replied thanking Mr Avery for his words of farewell and everyone for their lovely gift which both he and his wife would always value. “For They Are Jelly Good Fellows’’ was sung and three cheers were heartily given.
