WITH THE HOUNDS
LOCAL HORSES QUALIFY FOUR DAYS AT PAEROA . Several enthusiasts of the Paeroa Ward of the Maramarua Hunt Club early last week journeyed to Maramarua and returned with a small pack of hounds in order that local horses could qualify for horse events ahead and also that young horse lovers of the district could enjoy to a small measure the thrills of hunting. Commencing on Wednesday last four days’ sport was organised in ideal weather over the properties of Messrs Vuglar, Richardson, Young and Speechlay on the Mill road. The hounds were in charge of the huntsmen, Messrs J. Smith and Steen, of Maramarua, and although hares were not numerous a number of good runs were enjoyed. Each day there was a good following of spectators in cars.
Among the riders were: J. Bartlett on Skyette, M. Vuglar on Merry Valet, C. Speechlay on Brown Ronald, O. Young on Rollbook, G. Vincent on Baldy, P. Saunders on Tonto, Thomas on Corado, K. Jamieson on New Battle, K. Speechlay onr-a: brown, M. Richardson on Icicles, P. Fathers on a roan, W. Handley on Tdnteen, G. Haslett on Tony, W. Neil on Gantry, S. Clotworthy on Bettermusk, S. Handley on Gold Vaals, P. Curtis on Goodyear, L. Carlton on Te Whero, N. Meta on Tony, M. Green (Kopuarahi) on a brown, K. Green (Kopuarahi) on a chestnut, Mrs M. Bailey on Rakau, Miss Ryde on a bay.
