HARRIER CLUB
CHAMPIONSHIP TRIALS BRILLIANT RUN BY MORRISON On Saturday members of the Paeroa Harrier Club held a run over the road championship course of 52 miles. The runners were divided into three packs, a racing pack, a slow pack under the leadership of G. Payne, and a colts pack led by A. Vosper.
The colts pack ran over a threemile course. The most prominent runners were A. Davies and G. Vlahovich, who raced together all the way followed closely by A. Vosper. A great battle took place over the last 400 yards between. A. Vosper and G. Vlahovich and resulted in a deadheat with A. Davies right up third. In the slow pack, M. Wallen was the outstanding runner. Although G. Payne made a determined effort to overtake Wallen over the final stages of the run, the latter went on tq win comfortably with Payne a long way back.
The racing pack held a v race over the championship course of 53 miles From the start T. Morrison went to the lead and made a stiff pace, J. Fowler and F. Sharp running together most of the journey. With half the distance travelled Morrison, who was displaying a perfect action, was still striding along in front followed by Sharp and Fowler. At this stage the latter pair drew level with Morrison and they raced together until a mile from home when Sharp made a dash to the front. Sharp could not, however, maintain the effort and was gradually overhauled by Morrison and Fowler. Over the concluding stages of the run, Morrison drew out from Fowler and went to to win, with something in reserve, from Fowler who ran his usual good race, with Sharp well beaten off.
