CARD EVENING
PATRIOTIC FUNDS AIDED POOR ATTENDANCE OF PUBLIC Although not as well attended as anticipated, an enjoyable five hundred and bridge evening was held in the Civic Hall on Friday evening lasi by the Paeroa Ladies’ Patriotic Committee in aid of the 1943 All Purposes Appeal. The card prizes were won as under. —Bridge: Ladies, first, Mrs J. Hill, consolation, Mrs W. Barclay; men, first Mr J. J. Hill, consolation Mr G. Knap. Five hundred: Ladies, first Mrs McMullen, second Mrs J. Warrender, consolation Mrs G. Elvidge. men, first Mr Steve ? White, second Mr W. Townley, consolation Mr Nicnihowski. ' • The competition for the slippers was won by Mrs W. Stewart. After thanking the people for theri attendance and presenting the prizes the Mayoress, Mrs E. Edwards, made
an appeal for more knitters for woollen comforts for the Forces. Knitters were not coming forward as readily as was hoped and as there was a good supply of materia! on hand the committee made an urgent appeal for knitters to assist with the making up'of the wool.
