GREETINGS TO ALL

AIRGRAPH FROM MIDDLE EAST MESSAGE FROM PAEROA BOY Greetings to the people of Paeroa have been sent per medium of an airgraph received by the Mayor, • Mr Edwin Edwards, from *Gnr. R. R._ .Towers who is at present serving in the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the Middle East, reads as under: — “On behalf of the boys who are unable to do so personally, I take pleasure * in sending our loving thoughts and kind wishes to mothers and friends who have worked, so hard to support us on the home front. “Your efforts have played no small part in the sterling successes of New Zealand sons in the fight for freedom. “ I have met many Paeroa boys «and find all have earned good and highly respected names in their particular units. Paeroa has every reason to be justly proud of them. “I hope this will arrive by May 9 for I know on that day, no matter where they be, boys of Paeroa districts will have one thought above all others —that of Mother’s Day. “Wishing all of you the very best for 1943. Yours sincerely, PAEROA BOYS, Per R. R. Towers.”

The Airgraph Service to New Zealand from the Middle East was inaugurated on April 1, 1943 and the above message was among some of the first received in Paeroa through this service. The method used in the Airgraph Service is that after the sender has written his message a miniature photographic negative of the message is made, and sent by air-mail to its destination where a photographic print measuring sin. by 4in. is made and then delivered to the addressee. Gnr. Towers is a son of Mrs W. J. Towers of Towers street, Paeroa.
