TO BE METERED

ELECTRIC WATERHEATERS DOMESTIC SUPPLY TARIFF POWER BOARD’S DECISION A decision to amend the rates for electricity so that a one-meter Itariff could be charged for all domestic supply including water heaters was made at Tuesday’s meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board subject to approval being obtained from the Electricity Controller and the Price Tribunal. The manager, Mr R. Sprague, reported on the question of metering of waterheaters as follows: — “Since last discoursing on the subject of metering waterheaters, the trend of opinion and practice in the industry has been to leave the dairy heater as it is in the meantime in order not to accumulate further troubles on the head of the dairy farmer who is sorely taxed to handle his product with the reduced manpower available. This leaves us with only one problem to tackle, i.e., the domestic waterheater. New Tariff

“It is generally conceded that the one-meter tariff can handle the situation with reasonable safety and fairness to everyone, and after careful study and consultation with the chairman, I would recommend the following rate be adopted to operate with the present meters: — (1) Domestic supply.—First 30 units per month 3d gross, 23d nett. Balance units per month without waterheater, lid gross, Id nett.

All-Electric House (2) All-electric house with no alternative cooking or waterheater device:— (a) With waterheater, 600w. capacity on change-over switch or timeswitch with range 2.5 kw. or over.—. First 30 units per month 3d gross, 23d nett. Next 150 units per month lid gross, Id nett. Next 240 units per month l-3d nett, balance units per month lid Id nett. (b) With waterheater 750w. capacity on change-over switch or timeswitch with range, 2.5 kw. or over.—First 30 units per month 3d gross, 23d nett. Next 150 units per month lid gross, Id nett. Next 300 units per month l-3d nett, balance units per month lid gross? Id nett. (c) With IOOOw. capacity or upwards, on change-over switch or time-switch with range of 2.5 k.w. —First 30 units per month 3d gross, 23d nett. Next 150 units per month lid gross, Id nett. Next 400 units per month l-3d nett, balance units per month lid gross, Id nett. Maximum units l-3d nett to be 400 units per month. Continuous Supply

(3) All-electric house with no alternative cooking or water heating device:— ’

(a) With waterheater 600w. capacity on continuous supply.—First 30 units per month 3d gross, 23d nett. Next 150 units per month lid gross, Id nett. Next 240 units 2-3 d nett, balance units per month lid gross, Id nett.

(b) With waterheater 750w capacity on continuous supply.—First 30 units per month 3d gross, 21d ;nett. Next 150 units per month lid gross, Id nett. Next 300; units per month 2-3 d nett, balance units per month lid gross, Id nett. (c) With waterheater 1000w. capacity pn continuous supply.—First 30 units per month 3d gross, 23d nett. Next 150 units per month lid gross, Id nett. Next 400 units per month 2-3 d nett, balance units per month lid gross, Id nett. Maximum units at 2-3 d nett, 400 units per month. Shops, Offices and Hotels “In shops, offices, hotels, boardinghouses, apartments, where it is desired by the board that waterheaters be separately metered, the rate to be for water-heating:— “Where on change-over switch* or time-switch with sole cooking apparatus of not less than 2.5 k.w.—Waterheater units, l-3d nett. “ Continuous rate. — Waterheater units, 2-3 d nett. “As the board has no waterheater units of greater capacity than IOOOw. on domestic supply there is no need to cater for units above that capacity, and the present regulations prevent the increase of the capacity of all present heating devices without exceptional reason.”
