PATRIOTIC APPEAL

WORK ON HAURAKI PLAINS REPRESENTATIVES MEET QUOTA THIS YEAR TOTALS £2611 A meeting of the chairmen and secretaries of the Hauraki Plains Inter-zone Patriotic Committees was held in Ngatea on Thursday, Mr C. W. Parfitt presiding over the following representatives:— Ngatea: Mrs E. Sherlock, Miss M. Nelson, Mr C. W. Schultz. Turua: Messrs R. S. Kent, J. G. Miller, E. C. Marshall, H. H. Hicks. Netherton: Messrs J. A. Reid, C. Townsend. Kerepeehi: Messrs A. Jordan, A. ,Hayes. Patetonga: Messrs J. F. Mayn, E. Costello. Kaihere: Messrs A. G. Davis, R. Matchett. Mr F. E. Hammond was secretary.

Misunderstandings had arisen concerning each committee’s boundaries for collecting the 1943 appeal. The matter was discussed at length, and the boundaries definitely defined. Quota of £2611 Set The zone secretaries had set the quote for the 1943 appeal at £2611, and collecting had already started. It was reported that some Government servants were unwilling to contribute to the local fund, stating that they were subscribing by regular contributions deducted from their salaries. Owing to the impression that such contributions were small, others in the district were disinclined to contribute. As this affected the collections, a resolution was passed instructing the secretary to make inquiries as to where the monies were credited, if they could be credited to the local quota, and the total for the inter-zone, so that the position could , be made clear. Waste Rubber Collection With the exception of Ngatea, all districts reported having quantities of waste rubber awaiting transport, Ngatea had already forwarded its collection to Thames. The secretary was instructed to make arrangements for the cartage of the waste. Nori-ferrous Metals The secretary had distributed circulars instituting an appeal for waste non-ferrous metals. It was decided to arrange for its collection through the school children. Patriotic Wool It was stated that a large quantity of hand-knitted articles had been dispatched and a further 50 skeins of wool obtained. This is being distributed to be knitted up.
