TOBACCO BY POST
FOR FORCES OVERSEAS PATRIOTIC BOARD’S SERVICE Over 50,000 orders have now been received by the TTational Patriotic Fund Board postal tobacco service, which was introduced to enable relatives ‘ and .friends to send to members of the N'ew Zealand forces overseas their favourite brands of cigarettes and tobaccos at reduced prices. This total has been built up in a little over 15 months, the 50,000 nth order being received at the beginning of thia month. . , As the cigarettes and tolsaceo are available free of excise duty and sales tax and the prices charged also include postage and the cost of a speciallymade tin container, the 50,000 orders represent a saving in the aggregate to the senders of approximately £25,010. The orders have come from all over the Dominion and have been received mainly through tobacconists and other stores acting as agents of the Board. Appreciation, Expressed
Many letters have been received from the men overseas acknowledging the, safe arrival of the parcels and expressing appreciation of- the service, which is particularly welcomed by New Zealanders serving in the R.A.F., in the Royal Navy, and in the Forestry units in England, where ordinarily retail sales of cigarettes and , tobaccoare restricted. .
Of the orders received to date, the greatest, number has been for cigarette tobacco. With 11b of that type of tobacco, eight packes of tissues are sent. . The cost, including the provision of a tin and postage, is 11/- for most brands. If sent in the ordinary way, the cost to the sender would be 27/--
