PAEROA PLUNKET SOCIETY LITTLE INTEREST SHOWN CONCERT STAGED AT NGATEA (From the Hauraki Plains Gaz- , ette of May 24, 1923.) Regret was expressed at. the meeting on Monday that so few mothers took any interest in the movement to establish a branch of the Plunket Society in Paeroa. After the stirring appeal made by visiting ladies last week and reported in the Gazette, it was hoped that a branch would be formed. A meeting was called by the Mayoress, Mrs W. Marshall, but the response was so poor that those ladies present did not feel that it was wise to proceed with the matter. >
A concert organised by Mr Errick Chalmers, of the Australasian School of Grand Opera, as a benefit for the Ngatea Football Club, and held in the Ngatea Hall on Thursday evening was not such a success as was anticipated. Owing to a breakdown the car was not at Turua to’meet the Thames pupils of the school, so only a. portion of the programme could be given. The large audience which had assembled from all parts of the Plains was, however, well satisfied under the circumstances. Many of the pupils showed decided merit and their items were well received. The hope has been expressed that Mr Chalmers will have another opportunity of bringing his party to Ngatea, when, on last night’s indications, a splendid concert should result.
