PATRIOTIC AFFAIRS
LADIES’ COMMITTEE MEETS CARD EVENING TO BE HELD A meeting of the Paeroa Ladies’ Patriotic Committee was held in the Coronation Chambers on Monday afternoon, the Mayoress, Mrs Edwin Edwards presiding over the following members, Mesdames W. Barclay, C. James, G. Stewart, M. Parry, A. A. Jenkinson, J. Fielding, F. McQuillan and the secretary, Mrs E. Hunt. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames J. Kidd, J. Bartlett, R. Buckrell, E. Turton, G. Lamb, W. Robson, G. Bennett, J. Silcock and S. J. Hedge. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of those men who'had paid the supreme sacrifice was passed and the hope for a speedy recovery was extended to those who had been wounded.
It was decided to hold a bridge and five-hundred evening in the Civic Hall on Friday evening, May 28 and prizes were arranged for the function.
Knitted articles handed in during the month comprised 11 balaclavas, 22 scarves, seven pairs mittens,. 10 pairs socks, a total of 50.
