RUGBY UNION SOCIAL SUCCESSFUL EVENING DECORATIONS A FEATURE (From the Ohinemuri Gazette of May 17, 1903) The social held in the Criterion Theatre last evening in connection with the Paeroa Rugby Union, was well attended despite the ! stormy weather and the very I muddy condition of the roads. | The interior of the building had, i been tastefully decorated for the i occasion, and looked really well. Suspended from the roof was a football, while the union’s banner and line flags were fixed in front of the dress circle. Special attention^had been paid* to the floor, and the efforts of the committee were rewarded by obtaining an excellent surface for dancing. The music was supplied by the local string band —Mr Mettam (cornet), Miss Pugh (violin) and Miss Capill (piano), and was all that could be desired. The supper provided was an excellent j one, and needless to say, was appreciated by those present. Mr W. D. Nicholas made an excellent M.C. During the evening a euchre tournament was held, the prizes being won by Miss Schroff and Mr W. Sorrenson. Mr H. O. Searle had charge of the tournament. The prizes were presented to the winners by Mr H. Poland (president of the union). The members of the committee — which was a large one—are tq be congratulated on the success’ of the function and while it is difficult to individualise any for special mention, a meed of praise iscertainly due the chairman (Mr McGregor) and-the secretary (Mr Bush).
