COUNCIL’S TRIBUTE
PAID SUPREME SACRIFICE LOSS SUFFERED BY PAEROA Reference to the loss suffered by Paeroa in the deaths of Ptes. H. Rush, R. Lamb and K. Wirihana and PilotOfficer G. F. Beaver, was made by the Mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, at Thursday night’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough . Council, the meeting standing in silence as a mark of respect. These men, said the Mayor, had gone forth to serve the Empire in the fight against those who were menacing us and had been called upon to make the supreme sacrifice. The acting-town clerk, Mr A. A. Jenkinson, was instructed to write to the relatives of these men conveying the council’s sympathy with them in their bereavement. Reference was also made by the Mayor to Ptes. White, Smith and W. Herold who had been reported as wounded in recent casualty lists and he expressed the council’s sympathy with these men and expressed the hope they would soon be restored to full health. The acting-town clerk was instructed to convey the council’s sympathy to the relatives.
