HOLIDAY PERIOD.

CHANGED BUSINESS HOURS. LATE NIGHT ALTERATIONS. Christmas shoppers will no doubt take full advantage of the late night to-morrow. Only three business days are left before the holidays commence. Shops will be open until 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, but the usual late night in each of those weeks will not be observed, the closing hour on December 28 and January 4 being 5.30 p.m.. The statutory holidays for the shops will be December 25 and 26 and January 1 and 2.

Through a diversity of opinion, however, the local shopkeepers could not come to an agreement as to whether or not Friday, 27th, would be a general holiday, with the result that some premises will be opened and others closed on that day. The banks will be closed for three days next week, December 25, 26, and 27, and will be open on the Saturday morning as usual. In the New Year week they will be closed on January 1 and 2.

The legal vacation will extend from Saturday, December 21, to Wednesday, January 8.
